Cologne Pride History

Cologne is known as the LGBTQIA+ capital of Germany, and every year there is a large parade in the city, and a week of festivals, celebrations, parties, club nights, political discussions and more.

This event started during the 1980s, and it was originally called Christopher Street Day Cologne after the Stonewall Riots on Christopher Street in New York.

In recent years, education about AIDS has become an important part of tis European Pride celebration.

In 2002 Cologne Pride hosted Europride, and in July 2014 there were over 700,000 participants at this event.
