Dublin Pride History
Dublin has a long history of Pride events and gay rights protests.
The first Dublin Pride March took place in June 1974, after the Stonewall riots in New York. In 1983, the first Dublin Pride Parade took place, bringing together people from across Ireland.
Over the years, Dublin Pride has taken many forms- and it has turned from a one-day celebration to a 10-day Pride festival.
The last in-person Pride celebration was in 2019, and Dublin Pride had the theme “Rainbow Revolution” to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising.
Every year, over 250 LGBTQIA+ charities and groups get involved with Dublin Pride Parade, showcasing their services and taking this chance to find support for gay rights, equal opportunities and visibility for the LGBTQIA+ community.
